By   September 15, 2016

Gravesham has taken the gold award in the South East in Bloom awards this afternoon.

Receiving the award the mayor, Cllr Greta Goatley said:

“I’m delighted at this tremendous achievement. Everyone involved, all the organisations and individuals deserve this honour and the gratitude of the borough.”

Last year Gravesham achieved a silver gilt award. In 2014 won gold for the first time.

During the summer, teacups made from tyres, boats full of flowers, knitted telephone box-blankets and a giant crown appeared around the town.

Britain in Bloom judges visited the town to compare local efforts with those from around the south east.

An army of council workers and volunteers have helped transform the town. The theme this year was Queen and Commonwealth.
