Chair: Andy Blatchford

Secretary: Matthew Smalley

Treasurer: Martin Wilson

Election Officer: Mark Lindop

Press contact & Web/Social Media Manager: Ruiha Smalley

Campaign/political updates

Topics discussed included:

  • Thames Crossing – still no word of the consultation which was due to be published “later this year” as of February 2016!
  • KCC elections next year – the party prepared for selecting candidates – to be decided in the next meeting.
  • Social Care – specifically the lack of funding available for local authorities to adequately provide the care needed by our residents

Thames Crossing

A reminder of our position, which remains unchanged:

Our policy (decided at the meeting after debate) is that we rejectboth proposals (Dartford or Gravesham to be the Southern terminus of the new bridge/tunnel), and favour instead ways to decrease the amount of traffic needing to cross the Thames in the first place. Ideas include levying freight coming into Dover to encourage other ports in the UK (Felixstowe, Tilbury) closer to eventual destination to be used, investigating air quality concerns around Dartford, and crucially investing the rail network to encourage more freight to use that medium.

Next meeting/social

Next monthly meeting will be 12th February at the tea rooms at No 84 Echo Square.
