“The Crossrail Act  provides for a railway terminating at Maidenhead in the west and Abbey Wood in the South-East… An additional extension from Abbey Wood to Gravesend and Hoo Junction, has been safeguarded however there are no current plans to extend the railway beyond the route currently identified.” (source Crossrail)

The Dartford and Gravesham Greens think an extension of the Crossrail line (C2G), known as the Elizabeth Line, to at least Ebbsfleet International is a no-brainer. With developments like London Paramount tagged for the area more transport capacity will be needed than what is currently available.

In a Kent County Council consultation document regarding local transport plans, the KCC referenced the line’s extension into not only Ebbsfleet, but Dartford and Gravesend as well. The report sees such an extension as a ‘transport improvement’, needed to bring growth in the Thames Gateway region.

Earlier this year the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC), Boris Johnson, the Thames Gateway Kent Partnership and Bexley, Dartford, and Gravesham councils shared the same thoughts as the KCC. We are all agreed – bring Crossrail into the Thames Gateway.
